Maritime Medical Management is there to provide assistance in determining the appropriate length of stay for a medical, surgical admission based on the diagnosis and course of care thus reducing the costly inpatient admission and continued outpatient care. Being involved in a medical case allows the case manager to assist in the discharge planning for the crew member to ensure the facility, providers and staff are aware of the specific medical and/or surgical needs of a crew member continuing their care as an outpatient or being repatriated to continue their care in their home country. A case manager can provide recommendations for repatriation which will allow the crew member to travel to their home country to continue their medical care until maximum cure.
